Job Description
The Western Cape Blood Service is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to collect, process and distribute blood and blood products of the highest standards in the Western Cape.
A vacancy exists for a Medical Technologist – Immunohaematology Laboratory Department - Grade C2
As a reference laboratory, the Immunohaematology laboratory upholds the highest standards of practice, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and innovation in every aspect of their work.
Main Purpose of Job
- Perform administrative and technical aspects of the Immunohaematology Laboratory.
- Investigate, Identify and report on irregular Red Cell antibodies detected at the Blood Banks in order that compatible blood may be found for issue to patients.
- Perform testing and report on patient reactions and postnatal investigations.
- Execute identification discrepancies and confirmatory tests for Blood Banks, Blood Grouping Laboratory, Private and State Pathology Labs.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- B-Tech / BHSc /National Diploma in Biomedical Technology/Medical Laboratory Sciences – Blood Transfusion
- 3 to 5 years post qualification experience will be an advantage.
- Registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa
- Computer literacy is essential
- Good interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work as part of a team and be comfortable with working alone and making decisions
- Own reliable transport
- You will be assigned to a weekly on-call roster, and will be expected to be available for after-hours consultation / call out, on a weekly basis.
- May be required to work weekends and after hours.
