Job Description

The Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board- an Equal Opportunity Employer – is a statutory body established with its main purpose the regulating and monitoring of the gambling and horse racing industry in the Western Cape. The Board invites applications for the following position:

 

INVESTIGATOR: INSPECTORATE X 4

 The purpose of this position is to conduct inspections, investigations, and assessments of gambling operations within the Western Cape to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and licensing conditions

Job Requirements

 

The minimum requirements are:

 

  • A National Diploma (NQF 6) in Policing, Investigation, or a closely related field.
  • Five years or more post-qualifying experience in investigation or inspection in a regulatory environment.
  • Working knowledge of inspectorate prescripts as set out in the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Act, relevant regulations, policies, and procedures governing gaming and betting establishments under the regulatory authority of WCGRB will be an advantage.
  • Experience in report writing
  • Code B driver's licence.

In addition, the role requires strong analytical and Investigative skills, advanced computer literacy, excellent administrative skills, and an ability to pay attention to detail.  Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Candidates must also possess solid report-writing abilities, conflict resolution skills, demonstrate resilience under pressure and be adaptable to engage effectively with diverse individuals at various levels. The highest standards of ethical behaviour, integrity, and professionalism are also essential for this position.

The duties attached to this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Conducting targeted inspections of licensed premises to ensure adherence to relevant legislation, regulations, and standards.
  • Investigate disputes and complaints lodged by patrons against license holders, ensuring thorough and timely investigations.
  • Proactively identify existing and emerging risks, assess their impact, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare detailed investigation and inspection reports, documenting findings clearly and objectively while preserving supporting evidence for possible legal or enforcement action.
  • Collaborate with license holders to provide guidance and interpretation of legislative obligations, fostering compliance through education and support.
  • Assist with investigations related to illegal gambling
