The Production Supervisor role is critical to ensuring the smooth and efficient running of daily production operations. This position provides direct supervision of production teams, ensures that production schedules are achieved, and maintains compliance with quality, food safety, and health and safety standards.
Job Description

Key Duties and Responsibilities

·Supervise and coordinate daily production activities to ensure schedules, output, and quality targets are achieved.

·Lead, allocate, and monitor the work of production staff across shifts and production lines.

·Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures, food safety requirements, quality standards, and health and safety regulations.

·Monitor line performance, downtime, waste, and labour efficiency, and take corrective action where required.

·Conduct start-up checks, oversee changeovers, and ensure machinery and equipment are operating efficiently.

·Escalate equipment faults, quality concerns, and staffing issues promptly and coordinate with maintenance and support teams.

·Train, coach, and support team members to improve capability, performance, and compliance.

·Complete and review production records, shift reports, batch documentation, and other operational paperwork accurately and on time.

·Ensure raw materials and packaging are available for production and that finished goods are correctly identified, handled, and transferred.

·Promote good housekeeping, hygiene, and disciplined work practices across the production area.

·Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance product quality.

·Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, stock reconciliations, batch and expiry control, and timely system or paperwork updates.

·Ensure loading and offloading activities are completed safely, documentation is verified, and discrepancies, damages, or shortages are investigated and reported.

·Monitor the safe use and basic condition of production equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and racking, and escalate maintenance requirements.

Job Requirements

·Matric (Grade 12) or NQF level 4 required; relevant Production or Supervisory qualification, Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics advantageous.

·3–5 years’ experience in a production, manufacturing, or food-processing environment.

·Previous supervisory or team leader experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

·Experience with production reporting, stock control documentation, and ERP or warehouse management systems will be advantageous.

·Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, with the ability to compile shift and stock reports.

·Sound knowledge of food safety, quality, health and safety, and hygiene standards.

·Ability to interpret production plans, monitor performance, and complete production documentation accurately.

·Working knowledge of production equipment, line processes, and basic fault identification.

·Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and overtime when operationally required.
