To manage financial accounting, risk measurement, and control activities relating to energy trading, inventory, pricing, and market risk within the downstream oil and gas value chain. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, effective commodity risk management, and compliance with IFRS, internal controls, and South African regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
Prepare and review month-end and year-end financial results related to trading, inventory, pricing adjustments, and hedging activities.
Account for petroleum product inventory in line with IFRS and company policy (including stock revaluations, timing differences, and losses).
Ensure accurate cost allocation across refineries, depots, pipelines, and retail/wholesale operations.
Support statutory reporting, audits, and management reporting packs.
Energy Trading & Pricing Support
Account for physical and derivative trades (e.g. swaps, futures, options) relating to crude oil and refined products.
Reconcile trading systems to the general ledger.
Support regulated fuel price calculations and recoveries (e.g. Basic Fuel Price components).
Monitor margin movements across supply, trading, and marketing portfolios.
Risk Management & Controls
Measure and report market risks (price, foreign exchange, inventory exposure).
Support hedge effectiveness testing and valuation of financial instruments.
Monitor exposure limits and produce risk dashboards for management.
Ensure compliance with internal risk frameworks and delegated authorities.
