JOB BRIEF  

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Administrator to manage accurate and timely payroll for mining personnel, including shift workers and contractors. This role ensures compliance with mining regulations, collective agreements, and SAP ECC6 systems. You will also support time and attendance tracking, leave management, and respond to employee payroll queries in a fast-paced mining environment. This is a client secondment role through SoluGrowth, focused on delivering efficient, accurate, and on-time payroll services within the mining sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accurately capture, verify, and process payroll data using SAP ECC6, including overtime, allowances, deductions, and statutory payments for 5,000+ employees across multiple shafts and surface operations.
  • Manage time & attendance systems, integrating shift clocking data, resolving discrepancies, and investigating anomalies.
  • Administer leave management, including annual, sick, family responsibility, and mining-specific leave types, ensuring compliance with BCEA and company policies.
  • Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and month-end closings; liaise with finance for payments and SARS submissions.
  • Provide excellent support to employees and supervisors, resolving payroll queries with empathy and professionalism in a diverse, unionized workforce.
  • Maintain data integrity, identify process improvements, and stay updated on mining payroll requirements, including safety bonus calculations.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with POPIA, mining health & safety standards, and audit requirements.
Job Requirements

Technical competencies

  • Strong knowledge of SARS legislation and statutory compliance (PAYE, UIF, SDL, COIDA).
  • Ability to investigate and resolve payroll and statutory queries.
  • Good understanding of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.
  • Advanced SAP ECC6 skills, including troubleshooting, reporting, and system optimization.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reconciliations and payroll analysis.
  • Mining sector experience is advantageous.

Other requirements

  • Must have own reliable transport.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ licence.
  • Must be able to work additional/overtime hours when required.
  • Must have a stable internet connection when working after-hours and when working remotely.
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
