Job Description

Operational Risk Review and Oversight

  • Develop risk control and management strategies to reduce the financial and legal impact on the business
  • Stay on top of potential risks, and be adequately aware of the risk exposure of the business, keeping its internal operations in mind
  • Identify risks, and evaluate them in terms of their plausibility and repercussions and curate risk mitigation and management policies to reduce the effectiveness of the risk
  • Lead and manage operational risk reviews across key business functions such as Human Resources, Finance, Procurement, Commercial, and Communications.
  • Critically evaluate and review process maps, processes, and procedures to identify operational risks, inefficiencies, and gaps, with a particular focus on the banking and/or cash industries.
  • Document findings from risk reviews and provide actionable recommendations to address identified gaps or risks in policies, processes, and controls.
  • Monitor and challenge operational risk profiles across business functions to ensure comprehensive risk management and proactive mitigation of emerging risks.

 

Process and Procedure Evaluation

  • Evaluate the current risk management processes and determine their effectiveness in a future scenario
  • Custom-make risk management processes as per the current standing of the company, keeping in mind its future variations
  • Review and assess the organization’s processes and procedures to identify gaps or inefficiencies that could introduce operational risk.
  • Use process maps to critically evaluate the effectiveness of controls and identify areas of non-compliance or operational weakness.

 

Governance and Reporting

  • Prepare detailed risk reports that document key findings from operational risk reviews, including gaps in processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Present these findings to senior management and governance forums, ensuring that identified risks and recommendations for remediation are clearly communicated.
  • Track and report on the progress of risk mitigation efforts to ensure risks are managed in line with corporate objectives.
  • Work with the business to propose solutions and ensure improvements are made to close gaps and mitigate risks.

 

Risk Remediation Plans

  • Provide support and guidance to business units in developing and implementing risk remediation plans, based on findings from operational risk reviews.
  • While not directly responsible for executing remediation actions, ensure business units are effectively addressing identified risks and that actions are appropriately tracked and monitored.
  • Report on the status of remediation efforts, ensuring timely resolution and alignment with organizational goals.

Industry-Specific Knowledge and Risk Management:

  • Apply a strong understanding of the banking and/or cash industries to assess and manage risks that are specific to these sectors.
  • Stay abreast of trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks within the banking and cash management sectors to ensure the organization’s operational risk management practices are relevant and up-to-date.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on industry-specific risk management practices, ensuring that the organization’s risk management framework is robust and fit for purpose in these sectors.
  • Learn about and dive into the state of the industry best practices and financial services and its latest trends and perform competitive analysis on risk management plans
  • Study market trends, and implement the learnings into the risk management processes of the company

 

People Management

  • Create a conducive environment which translates into productivity and high morale within SBV and Facilities and Infrastructure department.  
  • Inspire one’s team to deliver on key performance areas  
  • Adhere to legislative requirements and Group policies and procedures  
  • Lead the focus on talent to instil value creation for high value contributors 
  • Manage one’s headcount in alignment with the principles and policies of SBV on a monthly basis. Inclusive of notifying HR of team cancellations, new business, and new initiatives with the relevant documentation /approvals 
  • Preside over disciplinary hearings on behalf of SBV in alignment with statutory requirements and the policies & procedures of SBV 
  • Provide leadership to employees within the organisation, creating a winning culture and high morale

Governance

  • Subscribe and align to SBV Services' ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standards, ensuring the department’s processes and quality management system is at all times in compliance with the standard.
  • Support SBVs ESG journey, reporting on and managing the ESG requirements to ensure a positive reflection and outcome.

Lead as an Ambassador and executor of Change

  • Act as a change management agent in periods of change to ensure continuity to operations
  • Manage the integration of Facilities and Infrastructure into a seamless end to end solution for customers
  • Effectively communicate and embed new processes and procedures as they occur addressing or escalating matters / concerns to the SME’s (subject matter experts) when required
  • Facilitate the necessary presentations, workshops or forums to ensure consistent and accurate communication is given across one’s centre/s
Job Requirements

Minimum Work Experience Required 

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in operational risk management, with at least 3 years in a management role.

Minimum Qualification Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Internal Audit, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., FRM, CRISC, etc.) is advantageous.
