PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this role is to support the Mechatronics Technician to ensure that all our PLC and Scada systems are well maintained, properly backed up and always updated.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Ensure that the PLC and Scada systems is in working conditions  to minimise downtime and faults in the Refinery.
  • Revaluating the failures of hardware, software programs and systems in the company.
  • Make PLC programming changes, back up electronic files and update blueprints as changes occur.
  • Responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, calibrating and adjusting electrical, electronic, and pneumatic process control systems and devices used in production, laboratory, office and utility areas.
  • Responsible for PLC Programming, HMI Programming, Industrial Robot Programming (Fanuc/ Kawasaki), Installation of working cell, Panel Wiring, Scada Programming and Designing.
  • Be accountable for fault finding and repairs on all PLCs, Fanuc/ Kawasaki Robots, Servo Drives, HMIs and related equipment.
  • Perform parameter backup /software for all plant machinery: Axis Drives, Cognex Cameras.
  • Effectively supervise supporting associates in department or assistants.
  • Strictly adhere to all SHEQ legislation regarding safety and machine maintenance. Produce safety cards as required.
  • Assist with new installations, commissioning and testing. 
Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed Matric qualification.
  • A  tertiary qualification (National Diploma or Certificate in  Mechatronics/  Electronics Technology or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years’ practical experience in maintenance or manufacturing plant.

 SKILLS/COMPETENCIES :

  • Intermediate proficiency—Microsoft suite (Excel, Email, Word) and SAP.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Mechanical Aptitude - Ability to perform technical tasks.
  • Communication skills.
  • Ability solve repair and maintenance problems.

 KNOWLEDGE:

  • PLC, Scada, Cognex Camera and Fanuc/ Kawasaki Robot repair knowledge.  
  • Strong undrstanding of machinery in the plant and the compliance of standards and regulations.
  • Tool knowledge to determine which tools would be most adapt for a job.
  • Understanding of planned and emergency maintenance to solve repairs and maintenance problems.
  • SHEQ knowledge—Understand and apply relevant SHEQ practices and procedures.
