The Department offers innovative, industry-responsive programmes in Criminal Justice, with specialisations in Policing and Correctional Management, and is dedicated to developing graduates who can serve as educators, trainers, and leaders across the broader Criminal Justice system. We invite experienced, passionate, and forward-thinking academics to join the Department as Senior Lecturer: Criminal Justice and play a leading role in advancing the discipline.
Key Performance Areas
Deliver engaging, high-quality teaching and learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the design and implementation of assessments that align with learning outcomes and uphold academic integrity. Supervise student research projects and cultivate an inclusive, student-centred learning environment that supports academic development and success. Contribute actively to curriculum development, review, and innovation to ensure programmes remain current, academically rigorous, and aligned with industry and societal needs. Undertake both individual and collaborative research, develop and sustain a strong publication record, and actively pursue external research funding opportunities. Participate in academic governance through involvement in departmental, faculty, and institutional committees, and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement processes. Provide support in student recruitment, selection, advising, and registration in accordance with institutional policies and standards. Engage in community outreach and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen the University’s societal impact and perform any additional duties as may reasonably be assigned by superiors.
Job Requirements
A Doctorate (NQF Level 10) in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field, with a minimum of six (6) years’ lecturing and/or relevant industry experience, or an appropriate combination of academic and professional experience. Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) are required. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach at least three of the following areas: Criminology (theory and analysis); Evidence-Based Corrections (offender management, rehabilitation, and reintegration); Research Methodology (quantitative and qualitative); and advanced, seminar-based teaching in Criminal Justice, including critical reading, source-based analysis, academic argumentation, and research-oriented learning. The ability to design, deliver, and assess authentic learning in digitally enabled and AI-mediated environments, while upholding academic integrity and ensuring the validity of student learning. A credible record of teaching excellence, successful supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research, publications in accredited journals, active participation in academic service, leadership within the discipline, community engagement, and experience in fundraising and securing external research funding, including successful grant applications, will be an advantage.

All qualifications must be certified by the Police within the last three (3) months, A Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate of Conduct) not older than six (6) months must accompany all applications. All foreign qualifications must be validated by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA). The normal retirement age is 65. Non-Namibian candidates who are deemed suitable for appointment will be offered a contract of five (5) years. Only applications submitted via the Direct-Hire system will be considered. Internal staff members must have successfully completed their probationary period to be eligible for consideration for any vacant position.
