Job Description
The National Sales Manager is responsible for leading and delivering national sales performance across both retail and food service channels. This role owns revenue delivery, customer growth and overall sales team performance, ensuring disciplined execution, strong customer relationships and consistent service standards nationwide.
With a strong focus on people leadership, customer engagement and execution excellence, the National Sales Manager ensures that sales teams are motivated, accountable and commercially effective across Johannesburg and the Western Cape.
The role plays a pivotal part in expanding food service basket size, onboarding new restaurant customers and ensuring Meze products are proactively driven, well-supported and consistently serviced in market.
The Role
Reporting to the Managing Director, you will take full ownership of:
- National revenue delivery across retail and food service
- Sales team leadership and performance management
- Customer growth and relationship development
- Field execution excellence
- Food service basket expansion and onboarding
- You will lead retail managers, food service managers, telesales teams, sales representatives, and national merchandisers across Johannesburg and the Western Cape.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Team Performance
- Lead, coach and motivate national sales teams
- Set and drive clear sales targets and KPIs
- Build a high-performance, accountable sales culture
- Conduct regular coaching, field accompaniment and performance reviews
- Align JNB and CPT operations for consistency and discipline
- Proactively address performance gaps and capability development
Revenue Ownership & Target Delivery
- Own and deliver national sales targets
- Translate commercial strategy into actionable regional objectives
- Monitor daily, weekly and monthly performance
- Drive corrective action where required
- Ensure alignment to agreed product and range priorities
Food Service Growth
- Personally call on key food service accounts
- Grow basket size and deepen restaurant relationships
- Lead onboarding of new food service customers
- Ensure full-service support from onboarding through ongoing servicing
- Work closely with Brand and Trade teams to support menu placement and product trials
Retail Execution & Merchandising
- Drive execution excellence in-store
- Ensure compliance to call cycles and store coverage
- Monitor and resolve execution issues in market
- Collaborate with Trade Marketing to ensure commercial plans are implemented effectively
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Participate in forecasting and demand discussions
- Provide customer and market insight to Trade Marketing and Brand
- Align with Supply Chain, Operations and Finance
- Act as the voice of the customer internally
Job Requirements
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- 8–10+ years FMCG sales experience
- Proven national or regional sales leadership experience
- Strong retail and food service channel knowledge
- Track record of delivering revenue growth
- Exceptional coaching and people leadership capability
Advantageous
- Experience in food manufacturing or chilled categories
- Understanding of route-to-market and distributor dynamics
- Exposure to national merchandising structures
