Reactor Operations department is looking for a Training Officer who will provide specialist and strategic leadership in the planning, development, implementation, and governance of Reactor Operations training programmes, ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory requirement. Reactor Operations is a department within Nuclear Operations and Advanced Manufacturing Division.
Job Description
Job Purpose
To provide specialist and strategic leadership in the planning, development, implementation, and governance of Reactor Operations training programmes, ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory requirements, alignment with organisational objectives, and sustained operational competence.
Key Performance Areas
Training Programme Design and Development
- Develop, review and update training programmes aligned to operational and regulatory requirements (NNR, NAMB, SHEQ).
- Design training material, lesson plans, and assessment tools in line with approved curriculum.
- Ensure alignment between theoretical, practical and workplace-based training.
- Continuously improve training methodologies based on feedback, audits and operational changes.
- Integrate new technologies, plant modifications and regulatory updates into training content.
- Facilitate specialised technical training programmes for Reactor Operations personnel.
- Prepare training equipment, simulators and materials prior to training interventions.
- Ensure achievement of defined learning outcomes and competencies.
- Apply appropriate instructional techniques to enhance learning effectiveness.
- Monitor learner participation, progress and performance during training.
- Develop and implement assessment tools aligned to unit standards and qualifications.
- Conduct learner assessments in accordance with NAMB/SETA and internal requirements. Perform moderation of assessments to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Provide structured feedback to learners on performance and competency gaps.
- Ensure all assessment documentation is complete, accurate and audit ready.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS), SHEQ, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain training accreditation (Assessor, Moderator, regulatory compliance).
- Participate in internal and external audits and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards within training environments.
- Promote Behavioural Safety practices within training programmes.
- Liaise with internal departments, management, and external stakeholders (SETA, regulators, service providers).
- Coordinate training schedules and resources with operational requirements.
- Engage third-party training providers and monitor service delivery.
- Provide technical training advice and support to management.
- Mentor, coach and guide learners to achieve required competencies.
- Monitor learner welfare and escalate concerns where necessary.
- Support career development and skills progression of trainees.
- Facilitate Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) processes where applicable.
- Maintain accurate training records and documentation systems.
- Compile training reports (monthly, quarterly, annual).
- Track training effectiveness and performance metrics.
- Ensure timely submission of all training-related documentation.
- Ensure availability and maintenance of training equipment and facilities.
- Identify and report defects in training equipment.
- Manage training consumables and stock control processes.
- Ensure proper housekeeping within training workshops.

Minimum Qualifications:
- National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Electronics) Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years in training, facilitation, or skills development
- Minimum 5–8 years’ post-qualification experience, including:
- Significant experience in reactor operations or technical environment
- Experience in nuclear or highly regulated environments is strongly preferred
