Facilities Management is looking for an Artisan: Fitter and Turner who will be responsible for performing mechanical installation, repair, and maintenance tasks within the organization. Facilities Management is a department within Nuclear Operations and Advanced Manufacturing Division.
Job Description
Job Purpose
The Artisan - Mechanical is responsible for performing mechanical installation, repair, and maintenance tasks within the organization.
Key Performance Areas
- Supports the Mechanical Supervisor/ Section Head in daily operations.
- Maintains efficient mechanical systems across all facilities
- Perform mechanical installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment.
- Conduct inspections and tests of mechanical systems to ensure functionality and safety.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults and issues in a timely manner.
- Assist in planning and executing mechanical projects, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
- Timeous return of completed Job Cards to Planning Office for capturing and recoveries.
- Adhere to local, national, and international mechanical codes and safety regulations.
- Follow safety protocols and participate in safety training and meetings.
- Perform regular checks and maintenance on safety equipment.
- Contribute to maintaining a culture of safety within the team.
- Conduct BBS observations.
- Deliver high-quality mechanical maintenance services with minimal downtime.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers to address mechanical issues.
- Ensure prompt and accurate completion of job cards.
- Aim for high customer satisfaction ratings by minimizing rework and defects.
- Ensure Customer Job Card Rating is done on all defect job cards.
- Minimise non- conformances on work done.
- Avoid rework/comebacks.
- Assist in managing inventory of mechanical supplies and equipment.
- Report any discrepancies or needs for replacement of tools and equipment.
- Support cost-effective practices in mechanical maintenance tasks.
- Support training and mentoring of junior artisans or assistants.
- Maintain a positive working environment and foster teamwork.
- Participate in Green Area Meetings (Toolbox Talks) to review safety and work practices.

Knowledge of:
- Understanding of mechanical systems and principles.
- Proficiency in mechanical tools and equipment.
- Knowledge and understanding of mechanical safety rules
- Knowledge and use of mechanical tools and equipment
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving abilities
- Fault-finding abilities and fundamental knowledge of most of mechanical equipment’s failures

Minimum Qualifications:
- Qualified Fitter & Turner Artisan -Trade Tested with Red Seal
- Driver’s License (Compulsory
Minimum Experience:
Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance operations as an artisan
- Good Knowledge and experience in maintenance / operation of coal fired steam generators.
- Good knowledge of Necsa site facilities, mechanical system and safety equipment (advantageous).
