East Coast Radio is seeking a creative and driven Digital Content Producer to transform on-air content into engaging digital stories across web, social media, video, and app platforms. The successful candidate will help grow audience engagement while ensuring ECR remains a trusted and relevant digital voice in KZN.
Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

Content Creation and Publishing:

  • Produce well-written, accurate and engaging digital articles that extend and enrich on-air conversations
  • Apply a strong editorial and journalistic approach — credibility and relevance are non-negotiable
  • Optimise all content for digital platforms including SEO, headlines, and audience engagement
  • Provide live digital coverage of shows, campaigns, and key ECR events
  • Capture and publish content in real time across web, social media, and app platforms
  • Identify newsworthy and engaging moments and translate them into timely digital content
  • Ensure 100% of content meets ECR's editorial standards and is reviewed by the relevant stakeholder before publication

Social Media and Platform Management:

  • Manage and update show and station social platforms in line with ECR's tone and digital strategy
  • Create platform-specific content — short-form video, captions, graphics — that drives engagement on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube Shorts and X
  • Maintain consistency in brand voice while supporting the distinct personality of each show
  • Monitor and engage with audiences: respond to comments, identify trending conversations, build community
  • Provide on-the-ground social media coverage for ECR events, outside broadcasts and activations

Commercial Content Integration:

  • Create concepts and execute content for client campaigns in collaboration with the commercial and implementations teams
  • Ensure client-related digital content meets brand standards and commercial objectives without compromising editorial integrity
  • Understand how digital content drives commercial outcomes — audience loyalty and advertiser value are connected
  • Keep relevant stakeholders informed on the progress of digital campaign deliverables

Performance and Insights:

  • Monitor and analyse content performance across all platforms using Google Analytics 4 and platform-native tools
  • Use insights to optimise content, improve engagement, and drive traffic growth — not as a reporting exercise, as a creative discipline
  • Share performance updates and recommendations with the Digital Lead, Executive Producers, and the social team
  • Track progress against monthly targets and contribute to weekly reporting

Content Strategy, AI and Innovation:

  • Contribute to the evolution of ECR's digital content strategy — identify new formats, trends, and storytelling opportunities
  • Leverage AI tools appropriately to enhance productivity while maintaining human authenticity — use AI for research and ideation, never as a substitute for genuine voice
  • Understand the AI disruption in digital publishing and actively develop content strategies that are AI-resistant: rooted in local authenticity, live radio moments, and human connection
  • Stay current with platform algorithm changes and adjust content strategy accordingly
  • Ensure all content aligns with ECR's editorial standards and brand positioning
Job Requirements

Educational Requirements:

  • Matric/ Grade 12
  • Relevant Degree or Diploma in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications or a related field

Knowledge Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • 2–4 years' experience in digital content creation, journalism or a similar fast-paced media environment
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Proven experience creating content across web, social media and digital platforms
  • Solid understanding of SEO, content optimisation and digital best practice
  • Experience with CMS platforms and social media publishing tools
  • Familiarity with content performance metrics and analytics (Google Analytics, platform-specific insights)
  • Ability to produce short-form video content and basic graphics (CapCut, Canva or similar)
  • Understanding of radio programming and show production 

Technical Skills:

  • Social media platforms: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube
  • Video editing: CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro or equivalent
  • Graphic design: Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent
  • Analytics: Google Analytics 4, platform-native insights dashboards
  • Research tools: BuzzSumo, TrendForecaster or similar
  • Content management systems and Microsoft Office suite
  • Smartphone content creation — comfort shooting and editing on mobile is essential
