Job Description

Time Out South Africa

Multimedia Producer

Time Out South Africa is looking for a Multimedia Producer with a strong visual eye, sharp storytelling instincts and a deep understanding of how people consume content across digital and social platforms.

This role is for someone who can shoot, edit and produce high-quality video content that captures the energy of South African city life — from food, culture, events and entertainment to branded campaigns, social-first stories, festivals, interviews and behind-the-scenes moments.

You will work closely with the editorial, social, marketing and commercial teams to create video and multimedia content that feels fresh, engaging, platform-ready and unmistakably Time Out.

Your key responsibilities

Create compelling video content

You will shoot, edit and produce polished video content for Time Out South Africa’s editorial, social, marketing and commercial channels.

This includes short-form social videos, campaign content, event coverage, interviews, branded content, evergreen video features and original editorial ideas.

Think social-first

You will create content that is tailored for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and other digital channels, with a strong understanding of format, pacing, hooks, subtitles, sound, audience behaviour and platform best practice.

You should know how to turn a good idea into content people want to watch, save, share and engage with.

Shape visual stories

You will help turn editorial and commercial ideas into strong visual narratives by developing creative concepts, storyboards, mood boards and video treatments.

The role requires someone who understands both the creative and practical side of production — from planning and shooting to editing and final delivery.

Support editorial and commercial teams

You will collaborate with editorial and commercial teams to conceptualise and execute video content strategies across both editorial and branded work.

You will be comfortable working from briefs, contributing ideas, interpreting brand requirements and delivering content that meets both audience and client expectations.

Capture the city

You will travel to locations where needed to shoot original content, including restaurants, venues, events, festivals, launches, cultural spaces and city experiences.

You should be confident shooting on location and able to work quickly while still maintaining strong production quality.

Edit with speed and quality

You will edit raw footage into engaging, platform-ready content aligned to Time Out’s editorial and brand standards.

This includes selecting strong moments, shaping the story, adding subtitles, sound, music, graphics or motion elements where required, and delivering final content within tight deadlines.

Job Requirements

We’re looking for someone who is creative, organised, visually sharp and comfortable working in a fast-moving media environment.

 You should have:

  • A qualification in videography, film production, digital media or a related field.
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in videography, video editing or multimedia production.
  • A strong portfolio showing editorial, branded, commercial and social-first video work.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or similar editing tools.
  • Experience developing storyboards, mood boards and creative concepts for video projects.
  • A strong understanding of Instagram, TikTok and YouTube formats, pacing and audience behaviour.
  • The ability to produce high-quality content within tight and shifting deadlines.
  • A good understanding of storytelling, structure, accuracy, audience relevance and basic journalism ethics.
  • Experience working in a media publication, agency, production environment or similarly fast-paced setting.
  • Skills in sound design, subtitles, motion graphics and basic graphic design.
  • Strong photography skills to support editorial and campaign work.
  • Experience shooting on location, including events, festivals and live environments.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects at once while staying responsive and organised.

Bonus points if you

  • Have experience creating food, lifestyle, culture, entertainment or city-led content.
  • Understand how to package video content for both editorial storytelling and commercial performance.
  • Are comfortable working with presenters, creators, clients, editors, marketers and social media teams.
  • Can bring fresh ideas for original video formats that grow audience engagement.
  • Have a strong instinct for what makes a moment worth filming.
