PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Site Assistant plays a key supporting role in ensuring the cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of the entire distribution centre. The incumbent will assist in executing daily cleaning, gardening, vehicle washing, and minor maintenance tasks, while also participating in operational meetings and adhering to safety protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Operations

 

- Receive daily instructions and cleaning equipment from the Site Controller.

- Clean and sanitize all working areas: offices, restrooms, common areas, and operational spaces using appropriate tools and chemicals.

- Perform scheduled washing of trucks and maintain the cleanliness of the wash bay.

- Carry out minor ad-hoc maintenance tasks and support in site preparation checks.

- Ensure safe handling and return of all cleaning and maintenance tools.

 

Groundskeeping and Gardening

 

- Maintain grounds and exterior spaces: lawn mowing, weeding, leaf blowing, and watering.

- Ensure the overall tidiness and visual appeal of the premises.

 

Support in Site Infrastructure Monitoring

 

Support in verifying:

- Freezer/chiller temperatures

- Water tank levels

- Generator fuel and functioning

- Fire system readiness (hydrants, alarms, extinguishers)

 

Safety & Compliance

 

- Wear full PPE and comply with company safety standards at all times.

- Assist in conducting safety spot checks and hazard identification.

- Report unsafe conditions or incidents to the Site Controller.

 

Team Participation

 

-Engage in ongoing training, coaching, and team meetings.

-Support in cleaning register updates and ensure schedule adherence under Site Controllers direction.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent qualification.

Proven experience of at least 3-5 years in a similar position, with a preference for experience within the FMCG Retail industry.

 

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Building and maintaining relationships with strong interpersonal skills - living out the company values and unique HO HOLA culture. 

Friendly, helpful, confident yet humble, and able to work well in a team.

Ability to work in a highly competitive, fast-paced past and dynamic environment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. With the ability to communicate fluently in English (written and verbal).

Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft.

Accuracy and attention to detail.
