The Underwriting Specialist role is to manage, develop and grow a designated panel of Brokers, retain existing business and generate new business opportunities with new brokers and achieve the desired sales volumes, achieve Gross Written Premiums and Loss Ratio Targets within the Renewable Energy in Africa and Engineering sector.

Job Requirements

Profit and growth

  • Underwrite and accept risks within the delegated authority to achieve effective implementation of business
  • Grow and retain Bryte’s Sales target to ensure the GWP and profitability targets are met.
  • Track Productivity levels
  • Deliver and enhance the highest level of client satisfaction by working with brokers to map and determine their business needs in delivering superior client service
  • Strategically analyse the Brokers business plan and develop future business opportunities
  • Develop the Broker panel whereby the Business Development Growth targets are achieved
  • through influence and persuasion
  • Ensure that technical and operational underwriting standards, procedures, and controls are
  • complied to.
  • Deliver and enhance the highest level of client satisfaction by working with brokers to map and determine their business needs in delivering superior client service
  • Implement agreed underwriting measures to attain targeted loss ratios and rates
  • Ensure adherence to the Renewable Energy and Africa Desk Sales plan
  • Effective management of Engineering portfolio

 

Technical Support

  • Sound understanding and knowledge of the South African Insurance market and experience in sales.
  • Sound knowledge of statutory and legislative requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local markets and industry sectors.
  • Sound knowledge of Bryte South Africa and its business strategy and objectives.

 

Credit control

  • Ensure that payments are received on time in terms of legislation and company policies
  • Resolve high level problems regarding credit control
  • Assist the regions in reconciliations

 

Effective people management and team leadership

  • Lead by example in living the values of Bryte
  • Ensure that the technical knowledge/expertise is enhanced
  • Communicate effectively, building and maintaining relationships
  • Ensure consistent compliance to company policies and procedures, corporate governance and relevant legislation

 

Qualification & Experience

  • Matric/NQF level 4
  • 3 years+ of Engineering insurance industry experience and sound experience in sales with a strong presence in the Broker community
  • Insurance qualification
  • Comply with Industry Regulatory requirements, Company and Best Practice Underwriting Policies as well as local regulatory & industry requirements (RE)
  • Technical competence in Engineering Products and underwriting principles
  • Business and Financial acumen

 

Knowledge

  • Fair understanding and knowledge of South African Engineering and Renewable Energy (Africa) Insurance/reinsurance market
  • Strong competency in Engineering underwriting
  • FAIS compliant
  • Clear criminal and credit record
