Job Requirements
Key Tasks & Accountabilities
- Deliver high-quality, responsive service to brokers and internal stakeholders in line with Bryte Specialist Motors client-centric standards.
- Assess, analyse, and underwrite new and existing Auto Dealers risks within delegated authority to achieve profitability and growth targets.
- Apply specialised technical knowledge in motor trade and auto dealer risks to ensure accurate risk evaluation and pricing.
- Manage and grow a profitable portfolio through effective underwriting, retention strategies, and risk management practices.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with brokers to support business retention and new business growth.
- Underwrite medium- to high-complexity risks in accordance with Bryte’s risk appetite and underwriting guidelines.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior underwriting staff to enhance team capability.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of specialist motor propositions aligned to market needs.
New Business & Policy Administration
- Capture and process new business, including preparing and issuing quotes and calculating premiums in line with underwriting guidelines.
- Distribute policy schedules and wording documentation accurately and timeously to brokers.
- Proactively follow up on outstanding information and documentation to ensure efficient policy issuance.
Survey Management
- Survey Requests: Initiate survey requests on the Rapid system for internal or external surveyors in line with underwriting and risk requirements specific to auto dealer risks.
- Survey Follow-ups: Engage with brokers to ensure compliance with survey recommendations, ensuring all risk requirements are implemented and finalised.
Qualifications/Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Minimum 3 years’ technical underwriting experience in commercial insurance, with specific exposure to motor trade / auto dealer risks.
- FAIS compliant (minimum 60 credits).
- Regulatory Examination (RE) qualification is essential.
Knowledge & Requirements
- Strong understanding of the South African insurance and reinsurance market.
- Specialist knowledge of motor trade and Auto Dealers Acceptance underwriting.
- In-depth understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and pricing methodologies.
- Knowledge of portfolio management and optimisation to support underwriting profitability.
- Sound understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen.
