Our opportunity

The role holder will be responsible to manage, direct and control the Bryte Financial reporting Department in line with Bryte and regulatory requirements. The provision of timely and accurate management performance and budgetary reporting. To manage all aspects of investments for the group in accordance with statutory, international and internal requirements, from strategy to project implementation and establishing effective reporting, monitoring, and control measures in an ethically and technically correct manner.

Job Requirements

Key Tasks & Accountabilities

 

Effective management of all regulatory returns.

 

Effective management of annual financial statements reporting requirements.

  • Manage project plans by reviewing deliverables and ensuring that milestones are met in terms of project plans
  • Hold regular feedback meetings with project team to identify problem areas or missed milestones (take corrective action where necessary)
  • Provide guidance, coaching and technical support to facilitate the development of financial team
  • Review all statements and identify variances; ensure adjustments are made by team
  • Prepare pack and gather feedback from Audit Committee meetings; make necessary amendments and submit to manager for review timeously

 

Effective management of statutory reporting and compliance

  • Ensure that relevant financial statutory reporting is prepared in compliance with statutory and legislative requirements
  • Review relevant financial statistics from external consultants and identify variances to take corrective action
  • Submit reports to relevant person for sign-off
  • Identify contraventions of compliance and implement controls to ensure all compliance requirements are continuously met
  • Ensure best practices solutions for the company through researching markets and understanding changes in legislation
  • Network effectively through membership of various associations

 

Effective management of internal control environment

  • Investigate and implement effective internal controls to ensure compliance
  • Assess audit reports to identify areas of improvement and provide recommendations for corrective action
  • Identify internal loopholes and liaise with forensics and risk to ensure resolution.

 

Effective monthly and quarterly group reporting

  • Review, consolidate and forward group reports and subsidiary companies to Bryte
  • Draw up monthly timelines to ensure deliverables are met by relevant parties
  • Ensure that reporting queries are resolved timeously
  • Ensure compliance to the Bryte Way of Finance

 

Effective management of adhoc financial projects

  • Manage resources for projects and define roles and responsibilities
  • Develop project deliverables and milestones and ensure adherence thereto
  • Provide on-going feedback to manager regarding projects
  • Provide guidance to team to assist in continued development of staff.

 

Effective management of financial systems

  • Ensure reports meet business requirements through liaison with managers
  • Ensure checking interfaces from various processing systems, including underwriting platforms and reports
  • Identify and recommend strategic initiatives to convert financial data into business insight

 

Effective people management and team leadership

  • Lead by example in living the values of Bryte
  • Ensure the department is fully equipped to handle the workload and distribute workflow
  • Be an active part of corrective action to ensure those correcting fully understand errors and consequences
  • Create an environment that fosters teamwork and co-operation amongst team members
  • Create awareness of Bryte strategic objectives and their alignment to the department and company objectives
  • Continually strive to up-skill and motivate staff through effective leadership, mentoring, coaching, performance improvement and the creation and implementation of    individual development plans

Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered Accountant
  • 5-10 years’ experience in short-term insurance industry in a similar role.

 

Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of a corporate accounting environment
  • Sound understanding of accounting and financial processes
  • Understanding of GAAP and IFRS
  • Understanding and knowledge of statutory and legislative requirements (including corporate governance)
  • Understanding of accounting systems and software beneficial
  • Financial and business acumen
  • Knowledge of the Financial Services Industry
  • Knowledge of the Insurance Act
  • Clear criminal and credit record
