Job Description

Botswana Ash (Pty) Ltd is a soda ash and salt producing company situated on Sua Pan in Botswana, approximately 180 km by tarred road northwest of Francistown. The Company employs over 500 employees residing in Sowa Town, about 20 km from the Plant site. The town boasts recreational facilities, which include restaurant, tennis courts, squash court, swimming pool and a golf course. There are also excellent private and government pre-primary, primary and secondary schools.

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Medical Officer. 

MAIN FUNCTION

To ensure a healthy company workforce in order to enhance organizational effectiveness through delivery of a comprehensive and robust Occupational Health Management system that is aligned with current legislation and Company policies and procedures.

Ensures implementation of Company Occupational Health programmes and compliance with Company policies and legal/regulatory guidelines.

Detects, investigates, manages and advises management on cases of disease alleged to have been caused by occupational hazards.

Makes prognosis with regard to people with disease/impairment/disabilities and decides on the temporary or permanent nature and the prospects of continuing with employment.

Decides (sometimes in the absence of clear-cut guidelines) whether employees with certain conditions or disabilities should be excluded or removed from certain jobs or working environments. Bases decisions on the risk to the employee and the safety of co-workers. Assess its case on its own merit

Develops, coordinates and monitors the implementation of medical surveillance program in line with legislative requirement to ensure fitness of employees.

Ensures SLA's with key stakeholders and other key performance drivers are in place and adhered to. Resolves arising issues.

Manages subordinates and sectional plans.

Primary Health care management

Job Requirements

MBCh/MBBS/MD or any other recognized medical degree and Diploma in Occupational Health Medicine. A Master's degree in Health Administration will be an added advantage. 

Minimum Five years' experience with medical and surgical experience.

Legal Certification/Professional Registration. Registered with Botswana Health Professional Council or any recognized international body.
