(a) Main purpose of the job
To conduct Bank of Botswana Certificates (BoBCs), Government bond auctions, and implement monetary operations daily to guide domestic money market liquidity.
(b) Key Responsibilities
• Executing daily money market operations with commercial banks, including Bank of Botswana Certificates (BoBCs), standing facilities and repurchase agreements (repos and reverse repos);
• Managing liquidity in the banking system to support monetary policy objectives and maintain financial stability;
• Collecting and compiling bonds and money market data for reports to the Open Markets Auction Committee (OMAC);
• Trading and dealing in domestic money market instruments in line with central bank policy guidelines;
• Arranging and organising for the auctions of Government bonds and BoBCs; and for the publications of the Bank’s domestic market activities on bonds, BoBCs and other money market instruments;
• Monitoring short-term interest rates, interbank market conditions, and liquidity trends;
• Publishing on timely basis any decisions taken by the OMAC regarding bank rates to the primary counterparts and the auction results;
• Preparation of an OMAC background paper for the bond and BoBC auctions;
• Preparing market analysis, liquidity forecasts, and dealing reports for senior management and policy committees;
• Compiling market data, analyses and production of reports relating to commercial banks’ activity with the Bank; and
• Maintaining close communication with commercial banks and primary dealers regarding market conditions and auction activities.
(a) Job Requirements
Masters’ degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics or related areas OR Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics or related areas plus two years relevant post-qualification experience. ACI Dealing Diploma or Certificate is considered a strong advantage.
