Job Description
Established in 1992, Interstat Stationery (Pty) Ltd is a leading South African stationery supplier, offering an extensive range of products from over 100 brands. With approximately 9,000 products, four branches and a strong national presence, we are committed to providing quality products and excellent service to our customers.
We are looking for an experienced and results-driven Debtors Controller to join our Finance Department.
Job Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the company's debtors' book, ensuring effective credit control, timely collection of outstanding debt, accurate payment allocations and sound credit risk management. The role also involves assessing credit applications, managing credit insurance requirements and providing accurate financial reporting to management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor the debtors' book, proactively following up on outstanding accounts and reducing overdue balances.
- Oversee the accurate processing and allocation of customer payments, bank receipts, discounts and debtor-related journals.
- Review age analysis reports, place overdue accounts on hold in accordance with company policy and monitor credit exposure.
- Assess and approve credit applications within delegated authority, ensuring all supporting documentation and credit checks are completed.
- Manage credit risk assessments through CGIC and Experian, including credit limits, insured cover, trade references and customer account reviews.
- Liaise with customers, sales representatives and branch managers to resolve queries, claims, payment discrepancies and credit limit concerns.
- Manage relationships with credit insurers, attorneys and credit bureaus, including legal handovers, recovery reports and non-payment notifications.
- Prepare and submit monthly age analysis reports, credit insurance declarations and debtor-related reports to management.
- Review credit insurance invoices, claim settlements, refunds, rebates and advertising invoices for accuracy and validity.
- Ensuring productivity, accuracy and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Monitor credit applications and provide management with regular updates on application status and outstanding requirements.
- Ensure all debtor-related activities are completed accurately and within the required deadlines.
Job Requirements
• Relevant qualification in Finance or Accounting
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior debtors / credit control role.
• Proven experience managing a debtors’ team.
• Experience dealing with credit insurers, attorneys, and credit bureaus.
