PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To lead the Safety and Health Team in providing a totally integrated S&H function to the site and to influence Site Management to embed a culture of SHEQ excellence.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
BALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:
• Identify and assess level of baseline- and issue-based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to the business, financial and legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
• Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
• Manage SHEQ compliance within the Department through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to analyse, identify trends, initiate, mitigate, investigate and report SHEQ status
PEOPLE
Manage the Department:
• Ensure an enabling climate/culture
• Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
o Labour complement in line with budget
o Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Department
• Manage performance against set targets and competencies
• Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
• Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
• Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
• Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
• Conduct recruitment interviews
CUSTOMERS:
• Maintain and improve relationships with key stakeholders
• Ensure customer and supplier satisfaction
BUSINESS PROCESSES:
• Align the site with the Group SHEQ strategic direction and benchmark Samancor SHEQ Practices and Systems against Best Practice within other Chrome Producers
• Identify external S&H requirements and determine the impact they may have on the site
• Align the site to Samancor Chrome Behavioural Expectations
• Develop, align and implement Policies, Management Standards, Procedures, Protocols, Guidelines and Toolkits at Site Level (Chrome Level 6) and identify and implement tools to support implementation
• Identify learning Interventions to support implementation of S&H Management System requirements
• Facilitate external S&H Audits and monitor and report closure on Site Audit findings
• Maintain ISO accreditation
• Report on the Performance of Site S&H Management Systems
• Investigate, analyse and interpret Site Significant Incident findings to determine trends and review Samancor Chrome and other applicable Significant Incidents
• Analyse and interpret Site Behavioural Monitoring and make recommendations on findings
• Maintain the Contractor S&H Management Process
• Facilitate the development of the Site Risk Management Plan and monitor implementation for both pure and speculative risks
• Drive the MOC process
• Drive S&H projects

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in: Occupational Health & Safety
Additional Qualifications:
• Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems
• ISO 45001 Internal/Lead Auditor
• Occupational Health & Safety qualification, such as: NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC)
• SAMTRAC (South Africa)
• Other recognised OHS qualifications
Experience:
• 8 years’ relevant experience, preferably 2 years’ managerial experience
