Job Description
Overview
The Payroll Officer oversees and coordinates the full payroll process as well as implementation and reporting on all payroll, benefits, statutory compliance processes, and all administrative activities related to payments.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing, including payroll inputs, employee lifecycle changes, time and attendance, allowances, disability payments, garnishees, third-party schedules, and payslip distribution.
- Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance by preparing monthly payroll reconciliations, balancing payroll and creditor payments, journals and related accounting entries, processing UIF documentation, and adhering to legislative and company requirements.
- Coordinate payroll activities with HR and Finance, maintain accurate employee records, and prepare monthly payroll tracking, reconciliation, and statutory reports.
- Process and verify EFT, salary, ad hoc, and third-party payments, including bank account validation and payments to medical aid, provident fund, and maintenance beneficiaries.
- Manage and maintain calculations for Maternity/Paternity and ensure leave is captured correctly.
- Print/Store Pay schedules.
- Prepare payments against billings – Med Aid, Provident Fund etc.
- Assist employees by supplying copies of IRP5's, payslips and UIF related documentation (amongst others)

Qualification:
- Grade 12/Matric
- 2 year Diploma in bookkeeping / payroll
Experience:
- 5 years’ experience in end-to-end, monthly payroll administration in medium to large firms (1000 - 2500 Headcount)
- Minimum 3 years’ payroll system experience and overall strong Finance and Human Capital background
- CRS Payroll experience is preferred
- Computer literate
