PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate electrical, instrumentation and mechanical maintenance activities within the assigned plant area. The position ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of plant equipment, instrumentation, control systems and automation assets while supporting maximum plant availability, legal compliance and cost-effective maintenance. 

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Lead and coordinate electrical, instrumentation, mechanical and general building-maintenance activities.
  • Execute planned and corrective maintenance in accordance with approved maintenance plans.
  • Work with the reliability and engineering teams to establish appropriate maintenance plans and building standards. 
  • Oversee the maintenance of furnace refractories and general building infrastructure.
  • Coordinate plumbing, carpentry, painting, civil and structural repairs.
  • Allocate resources to achieve optimal operational performance.
  • Conduct six-monthly performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Develop personal development plans in consultation with employees and ensure that approved training is completed.
  • Implement, promote and monitor Zero Harm practices, systems and processes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of maintenance and building budgets in collaboration with engineering and reliability leadership.
  • Build effective working relationships with production, engineering, projects, management and other internal departments.
Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • National Diploma in Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Recognised Trade Test Certificate in Instrumentation, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar maintenance or supervisory role would be advantageous.
  • Experience using SAP Plant Maintenance or another Computerised Maintenance Management System is essential.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Intermediate proficiency—Microsoft suite (Excel, Email, Word) and SAP.
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting capability.
  • Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate plant and building maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals and related technical information.
  • Ability to develop maintenance plans for new and existing equipment.
  •  

KNOWLEDGE: 

The successful candidate should have sound knowledge and working experience in:

  • Asset care and maintenance practices relating to plant, buildings and general infrastructure.
  • Electrical, mechanical and instrumentation maintenance principles.
  • Control systems and automation equipment.
  • Equipment troubleshooting and fault-finding.
  • Planned and preventative maintenance systems. This includes SAP Plant Maintenance or a comparable maintenance-management system.
  • Permit-to-work systems. 
  • Statutory maintenance and infrastructure-compliance requirements.
  • SHEQ knowledge—Understand and apply relevant SHEQ practices and procedures.
