Job Description

Purpose

The Data and Technology team operates across four functional domains: master data, analytics and reporting, Salesforce automation, and image recognition. As the team grows in capability and scale, translating raw datasets into clear operational intelligence and maintaining robust system pipelines across all four areas has become a strategic priority.

This graduate role provides an entry point into a high-performance environment where a Data Science, Information Systems, or Information Technology background is directly applicable. The Graduate Specialist will be embedded within the Field Intelligence team, applying technical and analytical thinking to clean data, build dashboards, and help optimize the platforms that drive data visibility.

Role Context

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role suited to a recent graduate who is eager to apply data and systems principles to a fast-paced retail technology environment. Working closely with team leads, the graduate will gain deep exposure to how a modern data and technology function handles large-scale field intelligence, building a tangible body of work in analytics, data cleaning, and technical documentation.

The core competency required is a foundational understanding of data structures, systems analysis, querying languages, and an analytical mindset. Specific retail domain knowledge and platform training will be developed on the job.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Insights

  • Work with data streams across the four tech domains to identify trends, inconsistencies, and patterns in retail field execution data.
  • Transform raw data from store visits and image recognition pipelines into structured datasets ready for business intelligence tools.

Dashboarding & Reporting

  • Produce clear, interactive dashboards and reports using data visualization tools (e.g., Pyramid Analytics, or Looker Studio).
  • Ensure reports effectively track key performance indicators (KPIs), cycle times, volume indicators, and exception paths for both internal tech leaders and field operations

Data Flow Optimization

  • Analyse existing data pipelines and database workflows to identify latency, bottlenecks, and redundancies.
  • Apply structured methodologies (such as root cause analysis and database normalization principles) to suggest data pipeline and tool-driven improvements to team leadership.

Technical Repository Contribution

  • Contribute to the team’s centralized knowledge repository by ensuring all data schemas, system architectures, and dashboard definitions are clearly documented.
  • Maintain clean metadata and logical data dictionaries so documentation remains current, usable, and compliant with repository governance.

System & Automation Support

  • Support the implementation of approved Salesforce automations and data architecture updates.
  • Develop a habit of continuous measurement - establishing baseline data metrics before and after system adjustments to measure the impact of technical upgrades
Job Requirements
  • Completed NQF Level 5 or 6 qualification in Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Recent graduate or candidate with 1–2 years of experience since completing their qualification.
