The Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the operational readiness, safety, and efficiency of equipment, facilities, and systems. This position involves routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and technical equipment, while supporting sanitation, compliance, and customer service standards. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and technically skilled, with strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and dosing equipment.
- Minimize downtime through efficient troubleshooting and repairs.
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records.
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean and sanitize equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Operate pressure washers, disinfectant sprayers, and dosing systems.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene, biosecurity, and food safety standards.
Technical Support & Customer Service
- Provide technical guidance to teams and stakeholders.
- Assist in resolving technical issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Support training on equipment operation, chemical handling, and workplace safety.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Report hazards and ensure proper use of PPE.
- Support compliance with industry and audit requirements.
Facility & Asset Maintenance
- Assist with maintenance of facilities, ventilation systems, water lines, and operational assets.
- Conduct inspections, stock checks, and equipment audits.
- Support emergency maintenance when required.
Job Requirements
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Vocational training or technical certification preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in equipment maintenance, technical services, or industrial operations.
- Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, dosing pumps, and chemical handling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical reporting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Advantageous
- Valid Code 10 Driver's Licence.
- Technical qualification in Mechanics, Equipment Repair, or a related field.
- Experience within Poultry, Livestock, FMCG, Industrial, or Agricultural environments.
The successful incumbent must have the following skill sets:
