Hulamin is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Process Technician to join the Plate Plant department. This position is based in Hulamin Operations, Pietermaritzburg.
Job Description
PURPOSE OF ROLE
To monitor and improve the production process according to agreed standards to minimise process variation and support the achievement of Quality, Safety and Cost (QSC) targets.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor production processes and equipment performance on the shop floor and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Analyse production and process data, control charts and key process variables to identify trends, deviations and opportunities for corrective action.
- Conduct process investigations and root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Monitor product quality and ensure that out-of-specification products are identified, controlled and appropriately addressed.
- Support process control, quality plans, control plans, FMEA, SOPs and other relevant manufacturing documentation.
- Participate in quality, process control, problem-solving meetings and provide technical input.
- Initiate and support continuous improvement projects aimed at improving process performance, quality, productivity and cost.
- Support new product and raw material trials, including process capability assessments, data analysis and implementation of required process controls.
- Maintain effective working relationships with Operations, Maintenance, Quality Assurance and other relevant stakeholders.
- Provide technical support, coaching and mentoring to operational teams on process standards and controls.
- Participate in internal and external audits and assist with addressing identified gaps and corrective actions.
- Promote compliance with company requirements relating to safety, health, quality and environmental standards.
- Identify training needs and support the development and assessment of employee processes and technical competencies.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- A B-Tech in Engineering or an equivalent or higher qualification will be advantageous.
- 2–3 years relevant experience in a manufacturing or process environment will be advantageous.
- Experience within an aluminium, metals or continuous/process manufacturing environment will be highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of manufacturing principles, process control and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge or practical exposure to Statistical Process Control (SPC), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and quality management systems will be advantageous.
- Exposure to FMEA, Control Plans, process capability and quality improvement methodologies will be advantageous.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical reporting skills.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to work shifts when required.
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment and engage regularly with shopfloor teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet operational requirements.
