Safair Operations, operating as FlySafair has a vacancy for a Aircraft Trimmer at our Head Office in Bonearo Park. The successful applicant will report to the Heavy Maintenance Manager.
Job Description

Required to perform various Maintenance duties including, but not limited to:

  • Inspect, repair, replace, and install aircraft interior trim components in accordance with approved maintenance documentation;
  • Fit and replace upholstery, seat covers, cushions, armrests, carpets, curtains, and other aircraft soft furnishings;
  • Install and repair approved trim materials on aircraft interior panels, overhead bins, sidewalls, ceilings, and other cabin components;
  • Ensure all interior finishes meet company quality standards, regulatory requirements, and aircraft type specifications;
  • Conduct cabin refurbishment activities during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance inputs;
  • Inspect and maintain aircraft emergency equipment in accordance with approved maintenance procedures;
  • Replace damaged fabrics, covers, restraint systems, and associated trim components where authorised;
  • Ensure emergency equipment remains serviceable, correctly installed, and compliant with manufacturer and regulatory requirements;
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records relating to emergency equipment repairs;
  • Support Heavy Maintenance, Base Maintenance, and Line Maintenance activities relating to aircraft interior components;
  • Remove and reinstall aircraft interior components to facilitate maintenance inspections and repairs;
  • Assist maintenance teams during aircraft modifications, cabin reconfigurations, and refurbishment projects;
  • Ensure all completed work is released in accordance with approved maintenance procedures where authorised;
  • Perform all work in accordance with SACAA regulations, OEM maintenance manuals, engineering orders, and organisational procedures;
  • Ensure only approved materials, fabrics, adhesives, and consumables are used during maintenance activities;
  • Complete maintenance documentation accurately and within required timeframes;
  • Report defects, non-conformances, and safety concerns in accordance with company procedures;
  • Maintain aircraft cleanliness and foreign object damage (FOD) prevention standards within the work area;
  • Ensure specialised trimming equipment remain serviceable and correctly maintained;
  • Maintain accountability for allocated tooling and equipment;
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organised, and compliant with safety and housekeeping requirements;
  • Identify material shortages and support inventory control by reporting stock requirements;
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and company safety policies;
  • Correctly wear and maintain all required PPE;
  • Participate in safety reporting, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Support the development and implementation of improved trimming techniques and maintenance practices;
  • Collaborate with Aircraft Technicians, Crew Chiefs, Production Planning, Stores, Engineering, and Quality Assurance to support aircraft maintenance activities;
  • Support regulatory audits / inspections relating to aircraft interior maintenance activities;
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, work packs, repair records, and material usage records;
  • Provide progress updates on refurbishment and repair activities to the relevant supervisor;
  • Report defects, delays, safety concerns, and material shortages promptly.
Job Requirements
  • Grade 12 or Equivalent (Essential);
  • Airframe (B737-800) or Aircraft Trimmer license (Essential);
  • Minimum 5 years' aircraft trimming experience within a commercial aviation maintenance environment (Essential);
  • Experience maintaining and repairing aircraft seats, cabin interiors, overhead bins, emergency equipment, and aircraft soft furnishings (Essential);
  • SACAA regulations;
  • Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMM), Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM), and approved engineering documentation;
  • Aircraft interior materials, fabrics, adhesives, upholstery techniques, and refurbishment processes;
  • Aircraft emergency equipment maintenance requirements;
  • Aviation quality assurance and safety management principles;
  • Aircraft upholstery and trimming;
  • Precision measuring, cutting, and fitting;
  • Attention to detail and quality workmanship;
  • Technical problem-solving;
  • Planning and prioritisation;
  • Communication and teamwork;
  • Record keeping and maintenance documentation;
  • Safety awareness and regulatory compliance.
