A leading mining company in Rustenburg is seeking an experienced Processing Specialist for a 6-month on-site contract.
Job Description

The Processing Specialist is responsible for providing specialist technical and commercial expertise across mineral processing operations within the mining environment. The role will support the evaluation, development and management of processing-related scopes, contracts, services, equipment and technical solutions across concentrators, smelters and refineries.

The position requires a strong understanding of metallurgical and chemical processing principles, together with the ability to assess technical requirements, identify suitable solutions and engage with mining operations, suppliers, OEMs and service providers.

Job Requirements
  • Drafting scopes of work, technical specifications, bills of material and bills of quantity for competitively sourced events, working from end-user requirements.
  • Running working sessions with end users to understand requirements
  • Building the reusable asset base: scope templates by category, a standards guide, and a what-good-looks-like repository the business keeps after the pilot
  • Quality-checking scopes drafted by others (mainly end-users)
  • Bringing scope issues back into the Cross Functional Team so that recurring specification problems are fixed at source
  • NB: Approving scopes remains with the end user, who signs

 

Common requirements

  • Experience in personally writing scopes for competitively tendered work 
  • Heavy industry experience, preferably mining
  • Resourcefulness in obtaining engagement and required input with operational stakeholders
  • Can convert requirements into deliverables, acceptance criteria, measurable performance standards, and a pricing structure with the support of Sourcing Specialists
  • Clear, unambiguous English. Documents must pass committee reviews
  • Will be assessed on scope rejection rate and cycle time
  • Understanding of the value chain to be able to unbundle scopes for mine community suppliers
  • Excel analysis skills
