Hulamin is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Technical Sales Representative to join the Sales and Marketing department. This position is based in Hulamin Pietermaritzburg.
Job Description

Role Purpose

The Technical Sales Representative will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong automotive customer relationships while providing the technical and commercial interface between customers and the business. The role will focus on understanding auomotive customer requirements, supporting product applications and qualifications, identifying opportunities for business growth, and coordinating internal resources to ensure customer expectations relating to product quality, performance, service and delivery are effectively addressed.

The incumbent will work closely with customers and internal Sales, Technical, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and other relevant teams to strengthen customer satisfaction, support business growth and ensure effective communication and resolution of customer requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop relationships with assigned customers, acting as a key interface between customers and the business on commercial, technical, product and service-related matters.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of customer businesses, applications, product requirements, specifications and expectations to support the delivery of appropriate technical and commercial solutions.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow sales, strengthen existing customer relationships and support the development of new business within targeted markets.
  • Support the development and execution of customer account plans, sales forecasts and demand requirements in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate customer product trials and qualification programmes in collaboration with internal Technical, Quality, Manufacturing and other relevant teams, ensuring appropriate planning, execution, feedback and follow-through.
  • Facilitate the evaluation of product trial and qualification results and ensure customers receive timely, accurate and structured feedback regarding product performance.
  • Gather, understand and communicate customer requirements relating to product performance, quality, specifications, packaging, logistics, delivery and service to relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the resolution of customer complaints and dissatisfaction by facilitating appropriate investigation, corrective actions and timely feedback between customers and relevant internal teams.
  • Provide customer and market insights to support product development, process optimisation and the alignment of product specifications and practices with evolving customer requirements.
  • Participate in customer meetings, business reviews, supplier engagements and product-related discussions, ensuring agreed actions are appropriately communicated, assigned and followed through.
  • Build effective cross-functional relationships across Sales, Marketing, Technical, Quality, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to ensure customer requirements and commercial priorities are understood and appropriately addressed.
  • Maintain accurate customer, sales and product-performance information and prepare relevant reports and analysis to support customer engagement and business decision-making.

 

Job Requirements

The core requirements of this position include:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related field (B-tech/equivalent).
  • Relevant 5 years experience in technical sales, key account management, customer technical support or business development within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Professional communication and people skills at all organisational levels, demonstrating an ability to develop and grow good customer and internal relationships.
  • A marketing qualification will be advantageous.
  • A passion for new business development and customer interface
  • A result-oriented problem solver, with proven numeracy and computer literacy
  • Experience within the aluminium, metals, automotive or related manufacturing sector would be advantageous
  • Exposure to product trials, customer qualification processes, quality systems or structured product-development processes such as APQP would be advantageous.
