Job Description
The Role
To assist the Fitters and Maintenance Manager with daily maintenance activities, ensuring equipment, facilities, and workspaces remain safe, functional, and fit for purpose.
What you’ll be doing:
Maintenance and Repairs
You will roll up your sleeves and:
- Perform general maintenance tasks such as spray-painting shelving, basic welding repairs, grinding of tiles, and other ad hoc maintenance activities as requested.
- Assist with routine and preventative maintenance, including:
- Fixing air and water leaks
- Replacing bearings
- Inspecting silos for leaks, water pressure, and drainage
- Assisting with repairs to extruders, dryers, and Nerak elevator buckets
- Cleaning and maintaining coating machinery
Hygiene, Housekeeping & Occupational Health and Safety
Safety and cleanliness are non-negotiable. You will:
- Adhere strictly to Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) and Food Safety standards (FSSC 22000).
- Identify health and safety hazards and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Report hazards and risks promptly to Management.
- Maintain high personal hygiene standards at all times.
- Keep work areas neat, organised, and compliant by:
- Cleaning and sorting tools and equipment
- Safely storing materials in the workshop
- Applying clean-as-you-go principles consistently
Job Requirements
What you’ll bring:
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
- Valid Driver’s Licence (Code B) will score you extra points
- 1–2 years’ experience in a maintenance or similar hands-on role
Someone with
- Good manual dexterity
- Ability to operate a variety of tools and machinery
- Clear communication skills
- Practical problem-solving ability
And is
- Accurate and detail-focused
- Vigilant and observant
- Reliable team player with a positive work ethic
Knowledge of
- Painting techniques
- Maintenance tools and materials
- Production machinery such as compressed air silos, hammermills, extruders, dryers, and coating machinery
- Safe working procedures and best practices
