A hospital admissions clerk manages the front-desk intake and registration process for incoming patients. They act as the primary point of contact, collecting personal and medical details, verifying insurance or medical aid coverage, processing consent forms, and updating electronic health records to support clinical and billing operations
Job Description

• Admission of patients into the Hospital in a timely, professional manner which includes online pre admissions, direct admissions and/or transfers from other hospitals, etc.

• Maintenance of accurate and up-to-date patient records on the electronic system

• Verification of patient personal data upon admission and compliance with POPI Act to protect the privacy of a patient.

• Ensure that all sensitive information is managed confidentially and securely.

• Ensure that all relevant consent is obtained, explained, and signed by the patient and/or person responsible for the account.

• Verification of medical aid data using the various web applications available as per standard SOPs

• Engage with patients on medical aid rules, benefits, and co-payments to ensure that the business financial risk is adequately managed.

• Receipt of payments in the form of cash and credit cards as per standard operating procedure.

• Utilization of appropriate digital platforms and data solutions for the benefit of our business and patients (online admissions and other digital platforms)

• Monitoring of the patient waiting area/triage waiting area (trauma) and keeping patients informed of any delays in admission and/wait times.

• Maintain a professional and welcoming environment.

• Consistently maintain a professional appearance by adhering to the dress code and wearing the appropriate uniform in compliance with the uniform policy.

• Maintain and encourage effective communication and interaction within the unit, and key management/stakeholders of the hospital.

Job Requirements

• Grade 12

• At least 2 years’ working experience in a Healthcare or Hospitality environment (compulsory)

• Previous experience in a customer service orientated role

• Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)

• Sound interpersonal skills with the ability to handle conflict situations

• Knowledge of medical scheme - scale of benefits (preferred)

• Advanced computer skills, i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.

• Previous experience of integrated platforms on UMS/medical scheme B2B platforms, Clinic Manager, etc (preferred)

• Numerate, accurate, methodical, customer centric and attention to detail

• Ability to work well under pressure
