Job Purpose
To perform analytical activities in the laboratory through effective planning for the laboratory to deliver a reliable and cost effective service to internal and external customers.
Key Performance Areas
1. Financial recovery and sustainability
• Carry out job cards activities (sampling, routine calibrations, lab analysis, lab test work, etc.) allocated to him or her and finalise these according to approved schedules and requests
• Generate lab reports for the work performed and perform cross checks to ensure results are accurate and reliable.
• Provide weekly feedback the Section head or team leader in terms of status of work assigned.
• Complete and submit accurate timesheets for the work done in the lab to enable cost recovery
2. Lab availability:
• Report timeously lab equipment defect noticed in the lab
• Perform intermediate checks independently to ensure quality assurances for work performed.
• Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory instrumentation in the section.
• Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced by updating the stock list and report the section head which consumables/items to be procured
• Update quality control charts to verify accuracy of results.
3. Product Development aspect:
• Contribute technical inputs to the development/ improvement project and attending project meetings when required
• Perform activities assigned to him/her according to approved project schedule.
4. OHS, QMS and Compliance aspects:
• Perform calibrations in compliance to all applicable instructions and procedures. Adhere to the requirements of the quality system in the laboratory such as QM, Procedures and SANAS requirements.
• Maintain general laboratory facilities according to the ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Management System (inventory, waste disposal, sample registration, sample handing, training records etc.).
• Assist section head with the review or updating information for development and implementation of laboratory operational methods and procedures as requested
• Undertake actions assigned to him/her to close out NCR’s or implement corrective measures following approved action plan
• Ensure cleanness and good housekeeping in the work environment where he/she is operating
• Perform activities required in order to fulfil the BBS requirements in the workplace as contracted by manager/section head
5. Human Capital Development aspects:
• Adhere to the individual training matrix/plans to ensure that new knowledge is acquired.
• Keep required professional certification or recognition for his/her job updating.
• Provide technical assistance to the process of training interns and other trainees in the laboratory
• Attend identified courses to increase knowledge required in the laboratory
• Apply to become a SANAS technical signatory.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
• Diploma Analytical Chemistry
• BTech/Advanced Diploma in Analytical Chemistry will be an added advantage
Minimum Experience:
• At least 1-2 years’ experience in laboratory environment
• 1-2 years of experience working with chromatography instruments such as GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, IC, etc. in an Organic lab1 year experience on Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and Word
