Job Description

Purpose of Role

The Drone and Control room operator is responsible for  operating security drones for surveillance, risk management and conducting inspections across  mining operations

Role Context

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-flight inspections to ensure all equipment is in optimal operating condition before aerial surveillance operations and maintain accurate flight logs and mission reports
  • Implement drone deployment strategies, flight schedules, and surveillance patrol plans aligned with security priorities.
  • Plan and execute flight paths in accordance with operational requirements, site conditions, and applicable aviation regulations.
  • Ensure all drone operations comply with applicable aviation laws, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Analyse aerial data and provide actionable security insights to support operational decision-making.
  • Coordinate rapid drone response to security alerts, incidents, field anomalies, and security breaches.
  • Prepare and present evidence for formal proceedings, as required.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on drone equipment.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly surveillance reports highlighting trends, incidents and operational performance.
  • Serve as the technical lead on all drone-related matters during investigations and management reviews.
Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • A valid Remote Pilot Licence (RPL) from a CAAZ-certified institution, with experience in surveillance operations.
  • A minimum of two Advanced -Level passes
  • Any Diploma level qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Sound knowledge of aviation regulations and airspace restrictions.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant computer applications.
  • Strong understanding of drone hardware and software systems.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond swiftly to emergencies.
  • High levels of reliability, accountability, and ethical responsibility.
  • Proactive, innovative, and adaptable in response to evolving security threats.
  • Previous security experience will be an added advantage.
