An opportunity has become available for a dynamic Senior Systems Developer to join Samancor Chrome's Corporate BIS Team in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. The future incumbent's primary focus will be C# ASP.net MVC application development with the key focus on the design of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Systems.

Job Description

The primary focus of this position is C# ASP.net MVC application development. The incumbent must be the technical interface with the client and his/her requirements. The successful candidate has excellent client and communication skills in a corporate environment and will have the ability to design, develop, code and implement a project from analysis to completion. This is a hands-on position in the Business Information Systems department, with key focus on Samancor Chrome’s SHEQ Systems.

  • Strong programming skills in web development technologies within a Microsoft environment.
  • Hands on experience in building advanced web applications and Web Services
  • T-SQL coding (Stored Procedures, Functions, Views)
  • MS SQL Server database design and implementation experience
  • MS SQL Server Reporting Services experience

Customer Relations:

  • Maintain and improve relationships with key stakeholders
  • Interact with customers and familiarise yourself with operational concerns and any inherent peculiarities (e.g. SHEQ, ISO, IT issues)

Supplier Relations:

  • Liaise with IT suppliers and service providers as required

Group Business Solutions and IT Strategy, Leadership & Governance:

  • Provide input to the Samancor Chrome Group Business Solutions and IT strategy in line with business requirements

Policies, Procedures:

  • Develop, maintain and implement Group Business Solutions and IT Policies, Procedure, Standards, Protocols, Work Instructions, Codes of Practice, etc.

IT Management:

  • Coordinate Group Business Solutions
  • Ensure standardisation of software, hardware, development tools and database architectures across Business Units
  • Maintain the SLA's of outsourced service providers

New Developments:

  • Manage Group Business Solutions projects related to implementation of or changes to the Business Process
  • Liaise with the Business Units to identify business requirements
  • Assist with the compilation of Group Business Solutions project Scope Of Work
  • Compile Group Business Solutions technical specifications
  • Develop and implement Group Business Solutions in accordance technical specifications

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and define opportunities for improvement of current Group Business Solutions in conjunction with Business Units
  • Identify and define new Group Business Solutions resulting in the establishment of projects
  • Implement CI initiatives

Documentation:

  • Compile Project documentation
  • Review and update operating manuals and other documentation

System Integrity and Protection:

  • Maintain system integrity, availability and performance
  • Develop and maintain the Disaster Recovery Strategy to ensure Business Continuity
  • Test the Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Maintain IT Security controls in line with the Patch Management Policy
  • Provide education to users to bring about an understanding of IT security risks
  • Safeguard IT facilities (access control and environmental conditions)
  • Maintain the IT back-up strategy

IT Infrastructure:

  • Implement and support new IT Infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance to Group standardisation of Hardware/Software for Samancor Chrome

Maintenance and Support:

  • Assist in the 24 hour support function to the end-user
  • Train and coach the end-user
  • Administer the Group Business Solutions security
  • Manage the Helpdesk
  • Deal with IT operational problems that have been escalated from the outsourced service provider

Administration:

  • Compile operational reports

Research:

  • Research IT trends and technologies
  • Benchmark IT technologies against industry standards
  • Direct and coordinate the selection of new technologies 
Job Requirements

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

  • Relevant Degree or National Diploma
  • 4 Years relevant experience
